    MEET OUR DOCTORS

    Christopher S. Banning, MD is the President of both Cokingtin Eye Center and Midwest Eye Consultants, and specializes in cataract and lens implant surgery. Dr. Banning implants all types of premium lenses.

    A board-certified ophthalmologist, he earned his medical degree at the University of Nebraska in 2001. He completed his residency in ophthalmology and his subspecialty fellowship training in cornea and refractive surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Banning served as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Emory University. He has conducted clinical and laboratory research, publishing and presenting many articles, and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He joined Cokingtin Eye Center and Midwest Eye Consultants in 2006.

    Dr. Banning enjoys traveling with his wife and two sons, and is always up for a round of golf.

    Miranda N. Bishara, MD specializes in cataract surgery, intraocular lens implants, corneal disease and surgery including transplants, and anterior segment surgery.

    Dr. Bishara is a board-certified ophthalmologist. She earned her medical degree at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. She completed her residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center and her fellowship in corneal and refractive surgery at Pepose Vision Institute in St. Louis, Missouri. She is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Kansas City Society of Ophthalmology and Otolaryngology, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.

    Dr. Bishara served as an attending physician at the University of Kansas Department of Ophthalmology before joining Cokingtin Eye Center and Midwest Eye Consultants in 2017. She proudly served as the chief ophthalmologist for the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs from 2012 to 2017. She is on the faculty of the University of Kansas Department of Ophthalmology and is involved in resident training.

    Dr. Bishara enjoys traveling with her husband and two children.

    Christine Shrack, OD specializes in comprehensive eye care including medical examinations of the eye, contact lens and glasses prescriptions, along with the management of post-operative cataract and refractive patients.

    Dr. Shrack grew up in Iuka, Kansas, west of Wichita. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1994. She then graduated from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tennessee in 1998. She completed a fellowship at Northeastern State University at the Cherokee Indian Hospital in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Dr. Shrack has practiced with Dr. Cokingtin since 2000.

    She and her husband enjoy following their three boys around to baseball tournaments across the country. When they are home, they enjoy spending time with family and their two dogs.

    John Burton, OD specializes in comprehensive eye care including glaucoma management, cataract and LASIK surgery co-management, contact lenses, diagnosis and treatment of eye disease (diabetic retinopathy, age related macular degeneration, & corneal disease), and low vision.

    Dr. Burton grew up in Overland Park, Kansas. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Central Missouri in 2013. He then graduated from the Illinois College of Optometry in 2018. Dr. Burton joined Cokingtin Eye Center in January, 2024. He is a member of the American Optometric Association, Missouri Optometric Association, Optometric Society of Greater Kansas City and Board member for the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic.

    As an avid sports fan, Dr. Burton played multiple sports growing up and has always had a passion for various sports, most notably football, basketball and hockey. But you’d be surprised about some others he loves! You can find him most weekends spending time cheering on local teams, especially Patrick Mahomes and the KC Chiefs. If you can keep him sitting long enough, Dr. John loves movies, television or even a book. Give him suggestions, he always needs them! He has a black lab / Ausie mix named Sadie.

    William White, M.D., a board-certified ophthalmologist, specializes in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery. Surgery of the eyelids, including eyelid cancer, tear drainage apparatus, eye socket tumors, and thyroid-related eye disease management are examples of problems Dr. White treats.

    Dr. White studied chemistry at the University of Missouri Kansas City and graduated from medical school from Saint Louis University. He completed a transitional internship at the Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado, and an ophthalmology residency at the Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Dr. White did his fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts. Dr. White is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, and the Missouri State Medical Association.

    James R. Overlease, M.D., is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma and cataract management and surgeries.

    Dr. Overlease graduated magna cum laude with a degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Tulsa. He then went on to receive his medical degree from the University of Texas in Houston and completed a medical internship at St. Luke’s Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Overlease completed his ophthalmology residency training at the Eye Foundation of Kansas City at the University of Missouri. During his last year of residency, he was selected to be chief resident. He furthered his training by completing a glaucoma fellowship at the Dean McGee Eye Institute at the University of Oklahoma.

    Dr. Overlease is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Glaucoma Society, the Missouri State Medical Association and the Missouri Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.

    Dr. Kyle Weeden is from Estherville, Iowa. He completed his undergraduate work at Iowa State University and attended Optometry School at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, where he met his lovely wife, Katie. He has worked primarily in family eye care but also has completed a residency program at the Robert J. Dole Veterans Hospital in Wichita, KS. There he specialized in low vision and eye disease.

    In his time away from work, Kyle enjoys bicycling, jogging, triathlons, whole food/nutrition, and spending time with his wife and two children.

    Clifton D. Cokingtin, MD - Retired

    Dr. Cokingtin founded Cokingtin Eye Center in 2002 and retired from the clinical practice in 2021. He created a practice focused on comprehensive patient care and exceptional surgical results. This foundation produced a thriving practice, acquiring like-minded and talented doctors and established additional locations in outlying communities, including Warrensburg, MO, and Lawrence, KS.

    Today Dr. Cokingtin and his wife enjoy traveling and visiting family, especially their three children.
